Just finished listening to the debut release by T.R.A.M. ‘Lingua Franca’. The record features a ‘supergroup’ comprising of Tosin Abasi & Javier Reyes (Animals as Leaders), Eric Moore (Suicidal Tendencies) and Adrian Terrazas (The Mars Volta). To get the point, this is an awesome EP. It’s not a million miles away from Animals as Leaders (unsurprisingly), but just far enough to hopefully broaden the horizons of even the purist metal heads. The composition has a very relaxed and almost loose nature around but remains awesomely dynamic and engaging. All in all this is a great jazz record with some astounding instrumentation, there’s also some really interesting vocal work from Kelela Mizanekristos.
If I could ask for one thing, it would be bass lines. Occasionally I felt like there were some moments which could be golden if the low end was filled out a little more but a great record nonetheless. Also, Eric Moore’s drumming is fucking sick from start to finish.
For fans of: Animals as Leaders, Alphonze Mouzon, The Mars Volta, Polar Bear

Akira Kawasaki, incredible drummer for the Post- Rock/ Jazz trio Mouse on the Keys interviews for Tokafi.com on the themes and influences of the bands debut album ‘An Anxious Object.’ The album is themed upon the life and personality of the city Tokyo. Having been to one of their live shows on their first European tour, I strongly recommend you check these guys out.

Another really cool announcement made today was the release date for TRAM’s debut record, ‘Lingua Franca.’ The jazz super group includes Javier Reyes and Tosin Abasi of Animals as Leaders, Adrian Terrazas- Gonzalez, who previously played with The Mars Volta and Eric Moore of Suicidal Tendencies. Judging from the unmastered track, ‘Endeavor,’ which they dropped on the public last summer, it looks to be a really good record.
Nothing feels more like home than jazz.
This is amazing on every level.
This blew my mind, I really like a lot of Thom Yorke’s stuff, but I love jazz. This is an amazing cover.
